Is tap or filtered water better for keeping flowers fresh?
I have wondered this for a looong time, but never asked it. For keeping flowers fresh at home, is it best to use water straight out of the faucet (mine is your average tap water), or is it better to use filtered water from a Brita filter/pitcher, etc. Might make no difference at all, but that’s what you decide.
I am a florist, and we use reverse osmosis filtered water… that is optimum.
If you get distilled water you should be fine….
The difference you will notice is only going to be a day or two!
The most important thing to do is keep the flowers out of direct sun or from heat. This will speed the bloom life up. Make certain to replace the water often – do not let it get stagnant… or cloudy. Trim off the foliage below the water line.
Filtered. The chemicals in city water that prevent bacteria growth can affect plants that are watered with tap water. In fact, lucky bamboo is so sensitive to chemicals in tap water that it can kill the plant. And, you always have to water them with distilled or reverse osmosis water.
